Excursion Bansko-Rupite-Melnik-Rozhen Monastery

Rupite is a village, situated in the Sandansko-Petrich valley. It is located in the picturesque place of the same name. The village is famous for being the home and the grave of the well-known Bulgarian prophet Vanga. According to her, the whole area of Rupite is filled with cosmic energy. Based on Vanga's idea the church of "St. Petka" was built in the village of Rupite.

South Pirin is where one can find the smallest town in Bulgaria - Melnik. It nestles in the wxquisite draperies of the Melnik sandstone 'pyramids' - a natural phenomenon and a protected site. Sandstone is the best environment for the production and maturing of the world-famous Melnik red wine. It is also the perfect scenery for the whitewashed museum houses, preserved from the Bulgarian National Revival Period (18-19th century)

The Rozhen monastery is situated about 5 km away from the small town of Melnik up in the lower part of Pirin mountain. It offers an amazing view of the peaks of Pirin and Belasitsa mountains and the famous 'mels' of Melnik - the latter being pyramid-like hills around the town, formed by the erosion of clay loam. The monastery is on of the oldest in Bulgaria.

The excursion includes lunch.
